IRIS Personal Tax-‘FORMAT_NINO The provided NINO is invalid’ and get a MTDerror.log
Resolution
This is linked to the HMRC data retrieval tool in PT. It is trying to link your client to the HMRC server and draw in employment etc income. There is a possible new HMRC server issue in 2022.
Make sure you are on the latest IRIS version (help and about) this is because the latest IRIS version picks up the latest HMRC rules.
Check the clients NI code – Client, View, Tax tab. Make sure the NI code is correct (This is normally correct as you have submitted this clients before but if new client then this could be a cause). Delete the NI code, Save, Go back in and enter in again. Save and Restart IRIS and run it again.
Also check the if they have a partner and they too have a valid NI code
If the same warning appears – try all the fixes here on this KB for HMRC Data retrieval – by resetting your agent credentials and logging back in
However, if you reset and login and still getting the error then can be a HMRC server issue. Do note their 1st level support may not understand the full rules on how this works between HMRC and IRIS PT and may say by default everything is fine on their side, then speak to a senior.
