Problem

When submitting a tax return etc you get Fatal Error 1000

Resolution

Warning: Fatal error 1000 system failure. The submission of this document has failed due to an internal system error

This normally means a HMRC technical issue which is blocking the online submission and may affect multiple clients, users and also different Tax programs, BT, P11D, PT, PTP, Keytime etc. HMRC usually tries to fix these 1000 errors as soon as they can.

Please find three options:

Try again later and submit
Regenerate tax return and submit again later
If the issue continues after several days then contact HMRC support and state the 1000 error.
