Problem

SQL Server does not exist or access is denied is an error users encounter when trying to open IRIS. This problem usually arises when the SQL Server service is stopped after a restart of the machine.

Resolution

To resolve this, you’ll need to start the SQL service.

1. Press the Windows+R keys to open the Run dialog.

2. Type services.msc, press Enter.

3. Locate SQL Server (IRISPRACTICE) or SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) and select Start. Retry IRIS.

5. Click on Recovery tab, change all failures to Restart the Service, Apply.

NOTE: The above steps may need to be repeated for the IRIS Co-Ordination Service to ensure licences remain validated. Please see KB 12163 for more detail on this. If you still receive the same error after this, use the below guide to resolve. A detailed guide can be found in the IRIS Help Centre, here
