Problem
When previewing the tax return, the bank details for the repayment have disappeared, although they were previously entered.
Resolution
Bank details will usually disappear if users are trying to claim a refund after the option has been ticked to offset against the payments on account via the Calculation window. This is because HMRC only see the entries on the return i.e. the presence or absence of the bank details and do not see the internal setting regarding the offset against POAs. PTP cannot guarantee that HMRC would not provide a full refund. If the client requires a partial refund to be paid to them they will need to contact HMRC after the return has been filed to advise of the bank details.
It is possible to override this by selecting the option to ‘Always claim repayment to be paid to client or nominee’ in the bank details section on page TR6. Alternatively, users can untick the box to offset against the payment on account. Once the bank details are entered, they will now remain. However there are no guarantees that HMRC will deduct the POAs due before paying the refund.
