IRIS help A.M. Nomikos & Son get their payroll shipshape
Adams Morey made the decision to use EARNIE payroll software, from IRIS Software Group, after careful consideration of its current software and in context with a significant T&A project due to be undertaken in 2013/14. This combined with a major change to legislation – the introduction of Real Time Information (RTI) had led to a review of the options available in the market place.
RTI is viewed as the biggest change to payroll since PAYE was introduced in 1944 and is mandatory for almost all UK employers from 6 April 2013. Adams Morey turned to Isys Systems, a Time and Attendance software provider, who suggested looking at EARNIE payroll software.
Adams Morey has been a major supplier of DAF trucks to businesses across the country since 1973 and has since grown to a company employing over 300 people, across multiple locations, with a turnover of £60 million.
With the prospect of RTI submission looming we were grateful to Isys Systems for recommending EARNIE software to us; from a company they had a long working relationship with (IRIS). Intelligent Time (Time & Attendance software) from Isys systems is soon to be installed at our 10 dealerships and will fully integrate with EARNIE software. This, and the fact that EARNIE software is RTI compliant, running on a SQL platform, will give us the opportunity to develop a more integrated solution for our business.

IRIS, who supply EARNIE payroll software, have over 40 years’ experience providing payroll software and solutions to over 30,000 small to medium companies across the UK. IRIS has been participating in HMRC’s pilot scheme for RTI since it began and has used the knowledge gained from this to develop a complete RTI solution, to ensure no business is left behind when the new legislation is implemented.
Shipping agency A.M. Nomikos & Son had always handled their UK payroll in-house, but in 2008 they made the decision to outsource this function to IRIS. We spoke to Finance Account Manager Annette Canbas to find out what led to this move.
With a relatively small team based in the UK, Annette had no trouble running a manual payroll. However, when the shipping industry saw its boom in 2004-2006, the UK team at A.M. Nomikos & Son quadrupled in size and running a manual payroll was no longer an efficient solution.
With the team expanding at such a rate, we didn’t have the time or manpower to continue manually processing our payroll. Things were getting out of control and we needed a solution that would save us time and money.
Initially we were looking to purchase payroll software so we could continue running our payroll in-house. We came to IRIS as a number of people in the business had experience with IRIS payroll software. However, we eventually decided that it would be more practical to utilise the IRIS Managed Payroll Service. The solution fit our budget perfectly.

The switch was finally made in April 2008 and the relationship between IRIS and A.M. Nomikos & Son has continued to grow from then.
The initial transition went incredibly smoothly. I think this is largely down to the great team up in Stockton-on-Tees. They are so well organised and incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to running payroll. If I ever have any questions or need advice, there is always somebody at the other end of the phone who is more than happy to help me out.

When Real Time Information (RTI) was introduced in April 2013, IRIS was there to guide Annette through the change.
After IRIS had prompted me to prepare for RTI, the transition was easy. Now all I need to do is add an extra column into my monthly spreadsheet and that’s it! I have already recommended IRIS to a number of friends and colleagues and will definitely continue to do so!
