It’s no secret that HR professionals are overworked.

There is currently an enormous amount of pressure on HR teams to boost staff wellbeing, handle workplace queries, adapt to the Employment Rights Bill and explore artificial intelligence – and that’s on top of our day jobs!

In just the last few months, multiple articles have surfaced with headline stats such as ‘a third of HR professionals are considering quitting due to burnout’, and ‘more than 40% of HR teams feel overwhelmed’.

Facilitating better usage of HR and payroll software

A Gartner study found that 69% of employees reported barriers to using HR tech in the last 12 months and 55% of HR leaders say their current technology does not cover their needs.

There’s clearly an urgent requirement for HR teams and their employees to make better use of technology or procure better solutions.

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with one of our amazing customers – Claire Dawes, Payroll Manager at the Federation of Jewish Services – on a webinar, where we unpacked the role of good HR and payroll software in giving time back to overworked HR and payroll teams.

On the webinar, we touched on the features which can benefit professionals, such as software integration, employee self-service and digitising processes.

In this blog, I’ve documented Claire’s experience with upgrading her software and the impact it had on their employees.

Empowering people with software

On the webinar, Claire explained: “In our business, about a third of our workforce are of a senior age.

“With that comes a lack of technology experience – we have some people who don’t even have email addresses and quite a lot of staff that don't have smartphones.

“When we were choosing our software, as well as having something cloud-based, we knew we also wanted something that was user-friendly, because it had to work for all our employees.

“What we selected works great (Staffology HR and Staffology Payroll)! Staff are able to easily log in and get their payslips or request holidays.

“The software has also definitely improved communication with our staff. Things like sending contracts can now be read and signed online, rather than using paper copies which we had coming out of our ears.

“We can also better send company updates. For example, we might need to update certain departments, so now via the software, we can put out a direct communication to those specific employees.

“The majority of staff have interacted really well with the system and quickly got on board with it, especially with tasks like requesting holidays.

“Before the software, to manage holidays, we were literally working on paper and using diaries and spreadsheets, which is just an impossible way to deal with it.

“Staff can now log in and see where they are up to, rather than waiting for a manager or filling in paper copies.

“More recently, we've started managing expenses via the software.

“Staff now upload their expenses and receipts in the system; they’re now completely in charge of their expenses before it is sent to a manager for approval and to us for payment.”
