Brexit is on hold again after the EU accepted the UK request for an extension to 31 January 2020.

The intended 31 October exit date is off the table now.

The UK’s impending departure from the European Union has caused great uncertainty for everyone.

And, despite the delay, it will continue to do so. Brexit is not going away anytime soon and the possibility of a no-deal exit, at some stage, still exists.

But at IRIS we’re helping our customers to look forward with certainty by getting ready for all eventualities.

In our Q and A below, we explain what IRIS has been doing and continues to do to prepare to ensure customers will not be negatively affected by whatever happens next in the Brexit saga.

Is IRIS prepared for all the different Brexit outcomes?

Yes. No matter what happens, we will aim to adapt and serve our customers appropriately. Whether we leave with or without a deal, Brexit is delayed, or indeed never happens, we will strive to ensure IRIS software is compatible with the outcome.

What measures has IRIS taken to prepare for Brexit?

At IRIS, we’ve been working diligently to ensure that we have all bases covered. Our initial preparations have been focused on solutions our accountancy customers use, including IRIS Company Secretarial and the potential ramifications for Companies House and surrounding legislation.

We are working very closely and directly with Companies House so there’s no delays in filing forms.

What is IRIS doing to prepare for a no-deal Brexit?

The IRIS team diligently prepared for a no-deal Brexit in early 2019 - when the possibility of it happening on 31 March was still very strong - by making various changes to our software.

We have since expanded and built upon these enhancements to produce an even more comprehensive update to our accountancy software for the eventuality of a no-deal scenario occurring on October 31 or beyond.

We’ve been preparing for the possibility that we do leave the EU on 11pm on 31 October - or indeed a future date - with no deal and the new software will reflect that.

What is the position with IRIS Company Secretarial and Company Formations?

In the event the UK leaves the EU without a deal, a number of Companies House forms will no longer be deemed compliant. In this instance, if those existing forms are filed electronically through IRIS Company Secretarial & IRIS Company Formations, they will be rejected by Companies House.

What is IRIS doing about changes to Companies House forms?

We have made updates to the software to reflect the potential changes that would occur in a no-deal scenario. This includes amending Companies House forms and the electronic submissions of these to prevent rejections in a future no-deal scenario.
