Motorpoint was founded in 1998 and is now the UK’s leading independent retailer of nearly new and used cars. With 20 store locations and hundreds of employees across the UK, Motorpoint needed a payroll solution that would work for the range of different payment structures used across the business and has been using IRIS FMP since 2017.
Outsourcing payroll so the business could drive forwards
Lois Miller, Head of HR, was with the business back in 2017 when they decided to outsource their payroll and give the team time back to focus on higher-value work. She tells us, “We thought it would be a smart decision to outsource our payroll and free up our time to focus on the business. We’re a fairly small team so finding efficient ways to work and saving time is crucial.”

Nikki Shaw, Payroll Coordinator at Motorpoint, tells us, “If we weren’t using IRIS FMP, managing the payroll internally would probably be a full-time role, but it probably takes us on average 3 days a month.”
Nikki became responsible for managing payroll last year and hit the ground running. She says, “I didn’t come from a payroll background, so it was quite daunting at the beginning, but the software is really intuitive, and our payroll managers from IRIS have always been on hand to help. The Service Desk has always been so helpful and the customer service we have received has been fantastic.”

With FMP, Motorpoint experience a peace of mind knowing that IRIS are always on their side. Nikki tells us, “There are times when we might need a quick response from the team at IRIS or we don’t have a lot of time to turn around reports and the team has always got back to us efficiently.”
When faced with the turbulence of Covid-19 and having to furlough staff, the team at Motorpoint could rest easy knowing that IRIS had everything covered. Lois recalls this time, telling us, “The IRIS team were fantastic, particularly during Covid when we had to furlough members of staff, including the Payroll Manager. They really supported us through a difficult time and ensured everyone was paid as they should be. Since then, we’ve had some face-to-face training and that was fantastic, and really made a difference.”
