Rejection code 1046, the supplied user credentials failed for the requested service.

Resolution

The HMRC username and password entered into the software needs to be identical to those held by HMRC. To edit these details, click on the Spanner Icon on the main toolbar, then the FBI tab. Please note, if the password has been updated recently it may be necessary to remove FBI status from any returns partway through the FBI process and begin again in order to pick up the new password details.

If those are correct then the issue will be with the UTR number for the client.  Please double check the UTR number first and, if this is correct, contact HMRC. Examples include newly issued UTRs which have not been fully set up yet, and companies which are ceasing where the UTR has been disabled before the final CT600 has been filed.
