Problem

In some cases the Windows Firewall on the server may be blocking access to IRIS from the workstations. In these cases it may be necessary to set exclusions for the SQL Server within the Windows Firewall.

  • It assumed that the default ports 1433 and 1434 are in use by SQL Server.  Please refer to the document titled “Understanding SQL Server TCP Ports” to establish which ports are in use.

Resolution

1. Press your ‘Windows’ Key and then the ‘R’ Key

2. Type Firewall.cpl and press enter

3. Click Advanced Settings.

4. Click Inbound Rules and then Click New Rule.

5. Click Port and then click Next. (You will now need to specify the relevant TCP Port)

6. Ensure TCP is checked and in the Specify Local Ports box enter 1433

7. Click Next.

8. Make sure Allow the connection is checked and click Next.

9. Select all three options:

10. Click Next.

11. Name the rule and click Finish.

12. You now need to repeat this process to specify an Outbound Rule.

13. Repeat steps 4 – 11

14. You now need to repeat this process to specify an UDP Port Rule. (Port 1434)

15. Repeat Steps 4 – 11

16. You now need to repeat this process to specify an Outbound Rule.
