Problem
IRIS Personal Tax- HMRC Data Retrieval keeps asking me to login again after days/week- get HMRC screen: Allow your software to interact with HMRC
Resolution
You have been regularly using the Personal Tax HMRC data retrieval function or VAT Filer but when you load a client etc- it now asks you to login with your HMRC agent credentials, so you login again with your credentials and and grant authority etc. and it works again but then it asks you to login once again after some days/weeks.
Help and About – check you have updated to the latest IRIS version, if you update and still get the same issue then continue reading:
This is a possible HMRC issue in 2022, 2023 and 2024, which affects PT/VAT users at random times. IRIS automatically uses your Agent credentials to authenticate yourself with the HMRC system and if there are issues then the login screen pops up again and again even after you have just authorised yourself.
Users have reported it working again correctly after a number of days and not having the Login screen come back.
If PT, read this KB on possible steps to fix it –https://www.iris.co.uk/support/knowledgebase/kb/personal-tax-hmrc-data-retrieval-error-not-working-no-data/
If VAT, read this KB and reset your ASA login-https://www.iris.co.uk/support/knowledgebase/kb/vat-filer-internal-server-error-or-date-periods-vanish-or-agent-client-not-authorised/
However if you go through the steps and its still happening then it will be the HMRC issue. Users who reported this have said it seems to have fixed itself after some days or weeks (where it no longer asks you to login again). If it continues then contact HMRC support and ask for a senior.
